Recently there were several instances in New York City where two tourists attempted to check in their legally owned firearms upon entering a building that had a no weapons policy. They were promptly arrested as their home state permits for firearms were not recognized by New York City.
New York City has a mandatory jail sentence for anyone violating their handgun law. These otherwise lawful citizens failed to understand or take note of the New York City statutes.
Ignorance is no excuse in a court room and while those of us that embrace the 2nd amendment believe that right should be Nationally recogniized, we must also understand that unlike marraige licences and drivers licenses, Firearms permits do not translate over State borders unless their is documented reciprocity.
